Blog Post 5 - Kyle Cooper

What makes a good title sequence according to Kyle Cooper?

Kyle Cooper is accredited with the man who single handily revitalised the main title sequence as an art form.

According to Cooper, a good title sequence consists of:
  •  Setting an expectation
  • Dove tails seamlessly in to the film proper

In the title sequence Deadzone, Kyle Cooper likes it as it includes simple typography as well as portraying his interest in film typography and graphic design.

Additionally, in the title sequence of To Kill A Mockingbird, the title sequence encapsulates  the characters main obsession, the way in which the marbles distort and the way in which the typography is integrated.

  • A story based main sequence is defined to being the specific back story as well as a metaphor/ poster like pun of what the film is about
Problems in which a studio might face after an audience test screening could be:
  1. Not having the budget to go and do another shoot
  2. The test audience may not understand a scene
2 1//2 minutes of a title sequence become important for the studio as

  1. It is used to become another scene
  2. Helps put in information that got left.
In the title sequence to Dawn of the Dead, they tried to..
  1. Do an end title to create a dark ending that people reacted to better.
  2. Set up the beginning so it becomes part of the story.
