Blog post 10 - What is genre

Genre is a category of film, art form or literature which is based on certain defining criteria. Genre is very important to a film producer so that they are able to categorize their film and sell it to the right audience. When they know what the genre of their film is they can ensure that their film follows the specific codes and conventions of that films genre.
There are also sub genres which is a subdivision of a genre of literature, music and film. As well as Hybrid genres which is when a genre in fiction blends themes and elements from two different genre of film.

Examples of film genres;

Drama
Comedy
Action/ adventure
Animation
Romance
Foreign
Sci-fi
Horror
Thriller
Musical
War/Historical
Crime fiction
Documentary
Family

My favorite Film genres are Romance, Crime fiction and Horror

ROMANCE

Poetic Justice

 We can identify this movies genre due to the two main characters expressing love and affection.
* Sitting closely to one another
* Holding hands
* Kissing

CRIME FICTION

Juice

This can be easily be identified as a crime fiction due to the use of a gun being held to another mans head in this image.

HORROR

The Conjuring

The fear in the womans eyes show that this is a horror movie.
*The background is darkness and the only source of light is the womans match stick

*Their are a set of hands in the background that we don't know who the belong to
