What is the purpose of a title sequence?
The whole purpose of a title sequence is to capture the legal rights for the owners of the movie being published, in which the company who owns or contributed in making the movie, takes credit and signs off that for credits and rights that they own that movie. For instance, Universal being a multi millionaire company, they would always have their own logo and their very own movies would all have their own title sequence of each film.
Additionally, in film openings and title sequences, the credits presented also contribute towards crediting the main actors and actresses who play very important roles in the whole movie itself. From the beginning of the title sequence, they will always show the main character and more likely the most famous actor/actress, or perhaps the person getting the most money out of the movie, the aspect in doing this is to capture a wider set of audience especially in the events of the movie in a genre where many people like the people who are acting. In some cases, you may be flicking through channels on your television and the moment you spot an actor or actress you like, you are more likely to watch it, therefore adding to the views of the whole movie.
Furthermore, another reason for the purpose of a title sequence could be to set the scene of what the movie is about. However, it isn't in all cases where the title sequence relates to the movie but in many cases, there is always some sort of relevancy between the movie and the theme of the title sequence
