Genre Research- Blog Post 10

What is a Genre?
A genre is a class or category of artistic endeavour in a particular form, content or technique

A sub genre is a subdivision of genre of literature, music, film etc.

A hybrid genre is a genre in fiction that blends themes and elements from two or more genres.

Codes and Conventions:
Codes are systems of signs, which create meaning. Codes can be divided into two categories. Conventions are generally accepted ways of doing something.

Genre Tropes:
A figure of speech using words in nonliteral ways such as a metaphor.

Film Stills:
The image below is a film still from a action genre film. The way that the genre is established is through the use of props and wardrobe. For example in this picture their is a gun, money and alcohol along with characters dressed in sharp suits that give the impression of a smart gangster appearance.

This film still is also from an action genre of film. This is clear due to the man jumping from one care to another, what looks like a fast car chase and the collision of cars in the background.

This final action genre film still depicts what looks like a war scene. This is made clear by the uniform that the two characters are wearing the surrounding area being filled with war weapons and what looks like a tank moving in the background. Therefore it is clear that this will be an action filled film due to the nature of war being very unpredictable, violent and fast pace.
