Blog post 6- Analysis of two film title sequences

Analysis of two Action films

Catch Me If You Can

Catch me if you can is a true story about Frank Abagnale Jr, who successfully conned millions of dollars worth of checks as a pan am pilot, doctor and legal prosecutor.
This shot included in the title sequences adds to the films theme of mystery and allows the audience to gather an understanding of whats to come. The fact that this shot is set in an all black room, with only the light let in comes from the door that's creaked open, express the idea of the main character being secretive. The need to hide and not be seen is expressed by the lack of lights and inclusion of shadow.

These images of The main characters change in his profession gives away the films story line. Throughout the title sequence The main character continuously attempts to try and disguise himself, through wearing a different outfit to disguise himself when in a new surrounding. This shows that he has something that he is trying to hide.

Mission Impossible II

Mission Impossible II follows Ethan Hunt as he leads his IMF team on a mission to capture a deadly German virus before it is released by terrorists.

The establishing shot of the films title sequence opening allows the audience to understand the strength and ability of the main character. The wide angled and birds eye view camera shot establish the area in which the main character is in, The lack of people and any other living thing shows its an area where no person should go. This also adds to the main characters characteristics, the fact that he is attempting to climb somewhere were no other person is seen. The setting of the films opening, a desert, creates a sense of loneliness but also suspense, The lack of sounds makes the audience feel as though a dramatic event is soon to occur.
The camera zoom of the main character shows that he is unaffected by the task in which is in front of him, climbing the high rock mountain. The sound within the opening is a combination of both digestic and non digestic sound. We can hear the sound of the main character panting, but the added sound affect of heavy wind and birds chirping continuous to play in the background throughout the opening to add to the idea of an isolated space.
